Paris Saint-Germain substitute goalkeeper Sergio Rico will be released from Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville on Friday almost three months following his serious riding accident. He has been cleared from hospital and will be discharged on Friday, according to hospital sources.

Several days of coma

The 29-year-old Spaniard had been admitted to the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville since May 28 for a head injury following a riding accident during the Rocío pilgrimage in southern Spain. After several days in a coma, the goalkeeper was discharged from the facility’s intensive care unit on July 5.

Five days later, the player published a message on social networks to reassure him regarding his state of health: “I wanted to thank all the people who showed me and sent their affection during these difficult days. I continue to work on my recovery. I feel once once more very lucky, thank you all and I hope to see you once more soon,” the goalkeeper wrote on Instagram.
