PS5 consoles “kill” gravity

The advertised liquid metal cooling system can actually seriously harm the device

While Sony touted the PS5’s liquid metal cooling system as a marvel of Japanese engineering that would effectively keep the console’s rampant heat within acceptable limits, no matter where the console was positioned, it didn’t quite work out that way in practice.

According to Ben Montana, who runs an electronics repair service in France, holding the PS5 vertically can cause permanent damage. It’s all regarding gravity.

Montana has been trying to bring the problem of the console to the public for several months, but his calls have only now been noticed:

In theory, the processor and the liquid metal are pressed tightly enough that nothing should leak out, but this is in theory.

Although cases of liquid metal leaking onto the board are isolated, all PS5 consoles that have been standing upright for a long time are at risk. Due to its high conductivity, liquid metal can easily cause a short circuit.
