Supermassive Games has a certain reputation, having produced games like The Quarry, Dark Pictures and Until Dawn for the PS4. It seems that several developers are on a new title under the aegis of a new studio, on behalf of Sony.

You are teasing super massive

There was a time when Supermassive Games got along particularly well with Sony: the studio had laid the very nice hit Until Dawn for PlayStation 4as well as several narrative experiences like Hidden Agenda et The Inpatient. However, the firm later moved away from the Japanese manufacturer to touch the multiplatform, as with the The Dark Pictures or the recent The Quarry.

That’s when a Reddit user by the name of Toumari hit upon a very interesting case: several Supermassive Games developers have left for a brand new studio, called Ballistic Moon. This one was co-founded by Chris Lamb, former senior programmer at Supermassive; there are also creative director Neil McEwan and motion capture director Joshua Archer, also veterans of the American studio.

According to the Ballistic Moon twitter account and official website – whose existence is discreet, but not secret – the firm is currently working on a major project under Unreal Engine 5 on behalf of a “big AAA publisher”including with a very large budget.

The spiritual sequel to Until Dawn in the works?

Inevitably, one wonders which is the publisher in question. A rather solid element of the answer can be found on the side of an actor specializing in motion capture, who let slip work under director Joshua Archer for Ballistic Moon and Sony Interactive Entertainment as part of a “Project Bates.”

The firm in question would therefore be Sony, which suggests that this new title is likely to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. (although the possibility of a PC publication cannot be ruled out). As for the nature of this mysterious “Project Bates”, everything suggests that it would be a narrative game in the vein ofUntil Dawn.

And for good reason : Ballistic Moon’s various job offers indicate that the software relies on a lot of emotion and motion capture, which is exactly the spearhead of Supermassive Games. A tweet also shows some photos from a session with an actress, and terror seems to be on the program.

Finally, note that the company shared on the social network a post from the horror film Halloween Ends with the hashtag “inspiration”, which no longer seems to leave any room for doubt as to the horrific nature of the project. This is proving to be very interesting and we will not fail to closely monitor the news from the studio.
