Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) officially launched a new model of PS Plus, a subscription service for its PlayStation users, on the 24th. While users’ eyes were focused on the game catalog they provide, we looked at the classic game catalog provided within the deluxe membership.
The classic game catalog is a benefit provided only within PS Plus Deluxe, the most luxurious membership among PS Plus memberships currently in service in Korea.
The key point is that classic PS games such as PS1, PS2, and PSP can be enjoyed once more on PS4 or PS5, and some games feature the same features as the remastered version, such as improved resolution and image quality, and quick save function added.
In addition to classic games from PS1 to PSP, titles that have officially released remastered versions within PS4 since they were first released on PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 are also provided separately within the catalog.
Among the classic game catalogs looked at on the day of the release, classic games such as PS1 and PS2 are showing a rather small volume and composition.
Currently, the classic game catalog of PS Plus Deluxe provides 16 games including ‘Wild Arms’, ‘Everyone’s Golf’, ‘Worms Armageddon’, ‘Tekken 2’, and ‘Jack and Dexter’ series. Among them, there are a total of 5 games released for PS2, including the ‘Jack and Dexter’ series and ‘Toy Story 2 Buzz Lightyear!’, and none of the games support official Korean subtitles.
If the first lineup of classic games was evaluated as rather poor, the remastered title catalog is full of masterpieces, increasing user satisfaction. ‘The Last of Us’, ‘Uncharted’, ‘Mafia’, ‘Batman: Arkham’, ‘BioShock’, as well as various masterpiece series such as ‘Resident Hazard’, ‘God of War 3’, ‘Crysis’, etc. 31 kinds of remastered titles are available.
Meanwhile, SIE plans to continuously introduce new games within its entire catalog of games, including classic games from the PS Plus. The classic game catalog is currently dominated by PS1 games, and PS2 and PSP games are expected to continue to be added in the future.
