The Socialist Party defined the presentation of candidates from its ranks to compete for the mayoral seat in the communes of Chillán, El Carmen and Quirihue, ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for October 27.
This was announced through a public statement by the regional leadership of the PS following an agreement reached during the last regional expansion, an occasion in which it was also agreed to maintain the municipalities of San Carlos and Yungay.
“Recognized and competent leaders have emerged freely and spontaneously, with great management capacity demonstrated for years in the communes of El Carmen and Quirihue. In both communes, the incumbent mayors have carried out a very good management and by force of law they cannot seek re-election. Therefore we support our colleagues who legitimately aspire to succeed the current acting mayors,” the board stated.
Regarding Chillán, “we state that there is a majority consensus in the party base, to propose a candidate for mayor from our ranks, since a person is needed who can effectively summon the forces of the center left. We believe that it is in the spirit of the broad call for socialism to propose a friendly and democratic city project in which citizens feel part of the management of the city.”
