Proyecto Medicina Secures Third Consecutive Leadership at Higher School of Medicine: Insights into Student Center Management

In the last student elections that were held at the Higher School of Medicine of the National University of Mar del Plata, the Proyecto Medicina group renewed the leadership of the Student Center for the third consecutive year.

He did so by surpassing the list presented by the Purple Strip and the list presented by independent and libertarian students.

In an election that transcended the limits of the School, strongly influenced by the local electoral context, the Peronist list in the ESM emerged as the most voted for by the students.

“Although the university does not escape a context of depoliticization and the results of the last elections, the floor of participation was widely higher than last year. Against the advance of right-wing and denialist discourses, we renew our leadership characterized by a work methodology that has managed to vindicate politics as a means for the transformation of daily life,” said Juan Martin Valentino, elected president of the Student Center.

This happened in the context of the first co-government election of the Higher School of Medicine, in which different forces seek to prevail in the face of the election of the Rector of the UNMDP that will take place in 2025. If it becomes a faculty, the medical career It would provide new assembly members and might change the election compared to the one that took place in 2021.

“We were part of an election in which there were actors involved beyond the medical students themselves. We are members of a space that has grown through strong disputes with different sectors, without losing the sensitivity of understanding the needs of the students of our career. We contextualize our work and we do it with commitment because we care regarding the university but we cannot understand it separately from what happens in our city,” said Malena Lucía Ibáñez, former president of the Student Center and first Counselor of the ESM Advisory Council.
