Proximus will also connect new customers of its Scarlet subsidiary to its new fiber optic network when it becomes available. However, the speed and price of the internet remains the same as the old VDSL cable.
Proximus waited a long time before offering fiber subscriptions to its daughter brand at low prices. This had unpleasant consequences for some customers. Indeed, five years following deploying its fiber optic network, Proximus is shutting down the old VDSL network. In neighborhoods where that deadline had already passed, Scarlet kicked out its subscribers. However, they might temporarily keep their rate if they went to Proximus.
Since July 12, Scarlet has been offering its services over fiber optics. Initially, this only concerns new customers, explains Fabrice Gansbeke, spokesperson for Proximus. “We are working to gradually offer fiber to existing customers.
In terms of price and offer, Scarlet does not differentiate between a connection to the old cable and a connection to the optical fibre. Scarlet subscriptions have rather modest surf speeds of 30 or 70 Mbps, while much higher speeds are possible with Proximus.
