Provigo Granby Supermarket Conversion: Revamped Store and Corporate Model – Maxi 3.0 Concept

2023-11-04 08:00:00

“Representing an investment of several million dollars, the work aimed at completely revamping the store should begin in the spring and take place over a few months,” said Geneviève Poirier, manager, corporate affairs and communications at Loblaw, owner of both banners.

According to Ms. Poirier, the store network is subject to regular analysis and this may lead to modification of the format of certain branches. “This analysis of the network demonstrated that the proposal for a Maxi would be even better adapted to the expectations and needs of Granby customers,” she underlines.

The “3.0 concept”, which consists of stores with smaller areas than the usual Maxi, will be deployed at this address, underlines the company spokesperson.

The Provigo supermarket on Boulevard Leclerc, in Granby, has been owned by entrepreneur Manon Sirois since 2016. The store will, however, move to the corporate model, specifies Geneviève Poirier. Ms. Sirois will nevertheless remain in position as director, once the transformation is complete, she specifies.

“All Provigo employees who wish will be able to keep their jobs and Maxi even plans to hire new colleagues with a view to the conversion,” adds Ms. Poirier.

Not the only one

In this inflationary period, conversions of Provigo supermarkets to the Maxi discount banner have multiplied across the four corners of Quebec. Similar news was notably confirmed this week in Lennoxville.

Stores in Rivière-du-Loup, Saint-Pascal, Baie-Comeau and Saguenay, to name just a few, were also targeted during the year for a similar operation.

Currently, Loblaw reportedly has twice as many stores carrying the Maxi banner than Provigo.

Maxi is already present in Granby on Saint-Jacques and Saint-Jude Nord streets. This last address first carried the Loblaw banner, before being converted into Provigo in 2016, then into Maxi et Cie last year.
