The Ministry of Health and Population announced the provision of reproductive health services and family planning methods free of charge to 615,545 women beneficiaries through mobile clinics and reproductive health convoys in all governorates during the first half of 2022, in the context of concern for family health and development and to achieve Egypt’s 2030 vision.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the ministry, said in a statement today, Wednesday, that the ministry provided free family planning services and means through 771 reproductive health convoys, and 13,745 visits to mobile clinics, in addition to 3 promotional campaigns that were implemented in remote and first-career areas at the level of the Republic. 185,942 new beneficiaries benefited from family planning services provided free of charge.
He added that the ministry provides technical support to the clinics affiliated with NGOs by training the medical teams working in them to provide family planning services with high quality, and they are provided with family planning methods free of charge and periodically according to their needs.
He explained that the total outcome of the means reached 98,729 beneficiaries through 484 subsidized clinics, with 419 clinics affiliated with NGOs and 65 clinics affiliated with the project (2 Enough).
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abbas, Head of Population and Family Planning Sector, said that the total number of beneficiaries’ visits to family planning units amounted to 11,370,287 visits, including 1,166,735 new beneficiaries, pointing out that 14,228,298 means of various kinds were spent.
He added that 8,638,730 home visits were carried out by rural women pioneers in all governorates of the Republic, where they gave 490,705 educational seminars to raise awareness of family planning services and means, promote health services and raise health awareness for the community.
He explained that 151,360 seminars were held in women’s clubs to raise awareness of reproductive health issues, and 101,884 women were trained in some crafts, such as handicrafts, leather products, sewing and knitting, and 2,381 product exhibitions.
He pointed out that 969 literacy classes were opened in women’s clubs in the governorates of the Republic, believing in the importance of supporting women’s development, raising the economic level of Egyptian families, and raising women’s ability to make decisions, especially the decision to have children, as part of the objectives of improving demographic characteristics. He added that 1,091 training courses were held for service providers and technical supervisors in all governorates on installing modern devices and using ultrasound devices, providing advice and services for family planning methods in hospitals following childbirth and abortion, in addition to training rural women leaders on the developed program to update information among educated populations and raise their efficiency.
