Different groups of gendarmes are developing barricades on the outskirts of the Valparaíso Penitentiary Complex, following the death of a uniformed man last Saturday.
Among the demands of the officials, are poor working conditions and lack of personnel, for which they accuse work overload in their work days.
In interview with Bio Bio Radio in Valparaíso, the president of the National Association of Penitentiary Officials (ANFUP), Roberto Escobar, assured that “Today’s demonstration came out spontaneously on the part of the officials of the complex. We can’t cope, we are desperate “.
“This was the last straw. The national leadership has abandoned us here today. The national director is not representative of us here in Valparaíso,” he asserted.
“It resulted in this, in a dead colleague, 20 years… a lifetime ahead. Mental health in the Valparaíso prison is terrible, it doesn’t give for more, ”he lamented.
“There are no staff. Two officials work for 300 inmates, ”she accused. “We have to feed ourselves daily here with $2,400,” she said.
