In many other cities, including the American capital, Washington, during the ongoing election contest between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden, the ‘Black Lives Matters’ protest against racial discrimination continued and several arrests were also made.
According to the report of foreign news agencies, more than a thousand protestors protested a few furlongs away from the White House and hundreds of people marched and set off fireworks in different areas of Washington.
In addition to Washington, there were violent protests in other cities including Seattle and New York, and this protest was generally peaceful and no untoward incident was reported, however, a few protesters were arrested by the police in Seattle.
Protesters in Washington remained peaceful and chanted “whose streets are these” and “if we don’t have justice, we don’t have peace”.
The young protesters were recording their protest while dancing and holding banners that read ‘Trump lies all the time’.
On the other hand, hundreds of people held anti-Trump protests in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, and many were arrested.
Demonstrators in Portland chanted, “This is what democracy is like,” and organizers said that whatever the outcome of the presidential election, the demonstration would be peaceful and they would continue their protest against racial discrimination until justice is served.
The local administration said that some protesters were also openly displaying weapons.
The mayor of Portland said in his statement on Twitter that any kind of tension will not be tolerated and citizens should be protected while raising their voices for their rights.
Police in Seattle said that several people were arrested who had been barricading the streets, but no one was injured.
According to reports, business activities were also limited in view of the fear of tension during the elections, while officials also made similar statements.
It should be noted that Seattle, like other cities in the United States, continued to protest against racial discrimination, which began after the death of black George Floyd in police custody in May of this year.
The protesters demanded that police reforms be brought.
Despite protests across the US, the presidential election was completed in a peaceful environment, while there were fears of tension and citizens were hesitant due to the Corona epidemic, but the political process was completed in a good way and now the counting of votes is underway.
It should be noted that in May of this year, a strong movement against racial discrimination was started due to the lack of adequate measures on other incidents including the death of black citizen George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Later on August 26, two people were killed and one person injured in violent protests after another black man was killed by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The county sheriff said police and protesters continued to clash on the third day after the black man’s death.
About 10,000 people were arrested during violent protests against racial discrimination after the death of 46-year-old black man George Floyd in police custody in the state of Minnesota.
