Protesters release worms, cockroaches inside Netanyahu’s residence

USA – A video posted on Instagram on Wednesday evening showed hundreds of worms, maggots and cockroaches crawling around the Watergate Hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is staying during his visit to Washington.

The video, posted on Instagram, shows swarms of cockroaches on the hotel floor, and it is noted that the protesters set off the fire alarm in the hotel “to ensure Netanyahu is disturbed before he disgraces himself in Congress in front of the world.”

The video also shows worms crawling on a table with drinking glasses, with Israeli and American flags behind them.

An official familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss security matters, said the video appeared to be authentic.

Watergate Hotel residents said the US Secret Service and DC police set up checkpoints over the weekend to screen anyone entering the building.

However, the video raised questions about how the protesters were able to reach the hotel, as the area is under tight security.

In the same context, American media reported that the Capitol Police began spraying pepper spray at demonstrators who were trying to cross the line set up by the police before Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech in Congress.

Dozens of demonstrators opposing the war on Gaza gathered around the US Congress building, coinciding with the Israeli Prime Minister’s speech.

This is the fourth time Netanyahu has addressed the US Congress, a record for a foreign leader, something usually reserved for leaders on state visits. Netanyahu’s speech is also likely to be directed at the Israeli interior, where he faces mounting opposition over his handling of the war.

It is noteworthy that Netanyahu is not in Washington at the invitation of the White House, but rather at the invitation of Republican parliamentary leaders who were joined by Democratic leaders against their will, in light of the dispute between Netanyahu and the White House over Netanyahu’s public criticism of the Biden administration despite the absolute support it provided to Israel during the war.

Vice President Kamala Harris was absent from Congress, citing lack of time, even though she is the one who should preside over the session according to protocol.
