The movement, having been renamed “the freedom chain”, was intended as a peaceful way to demonstrate once morest the health measures imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Already in the early followingnoon, many demonstrators gathered on the service road of Highway 40 near exit 12 in Rigaud. Several hundred people then formed a chain visible from the highway. The air seemed festive as even a clown was present to hand out balloons to the children.

The situation was similar in Beloeil, when many horns were heard.

The demonstrators were also numerous in Lévis, where flags, cries and horns invaded Highway 20. Host Jean-François Baril even shared a video of the human chain on Twitter, mentioning that the demonstrators were blocking both the highway and the service road.

The Sûreté du Québec confirmed that cars had gone to the site to ensure everyone’s safety, but that no incident has been reported in connection with these events.

Remember that Quebec is currently in the process of deconfinement. The measures therefore fall one by one, in order to make way for a return to normal.
