New York – Protesters interrupted US President Joe Biden’s speech with phrases including, “You have blood on your hands” during a fundraising rally for his presidential campaign in New York attended by his predecessors Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
Organizers said yesterday, Thursday, that the campaign had raised more than $25 million to re-elect Biden, who arrived in New York with Obama and Clinton aboard Air Force One, to participate in an interview moderated by “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert, at the famous Radio City Music Hall in front of Thousands of guests.
But the fundraising campaign was punctuated by protests, as demonstrators shouted during Biden’s speech, for his continued support for Israel in its war on “Hamas,” which claimed the lives of more than 30,000 people in Gaza.
One of them shouted: “Shame on you, Joe Biden…your hands are stained with blood.” Obama said Biden has “moral clarity” on the issue of Israel, and is willing to listen to all sides in this discussion and find common ground.
When a demonstrator interrupted Obama, the former president responded, saying: “You can’t just talk and not listen. That’s what the other side does.”
Before the event, the three leaders’ convoy passed hundreds of demonstrators who were protesting once morest Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza. Some young voters and other progressives who voted for Biden in 2020 are angered by his strong support for Israel.
The next US presidential elections are scheduled to be held next November, and on April 25, 2023, Biden announced his intention to run for a second presidential term, and Republican Trump announced his entry into the electoral race in November 2022.
