During these protests, protesting against the removal of the image of a bull from the logo of the Sindhi Literary Board, the speakers demanded that the historic logo be restored.

Ustad Laghari, who worked on the magazine of Sindhi writer, researcher and Sindhi Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai, said that the logo with the image of a historical bull found in the relics of Mohan Jo Daro is historical, which represents the origin of Sindh.

Among the 18 books published by Ustad Leghari, 10 also include 10 different manuscripts of Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai including Saraiki and Dhatki languages.

Speaking to Independent Urdu on telephone, Ustad Laghari said: ‘The Sindhi Literary Board was established for the promotion of Sindhi literature and not for the publication of religious books. Regarding the logo, the Sindhi Literary Board administration says that the image of a bull is religiously forbidden, so it is being changed and it was also said that by placing a map of Sindh, Mohan Jo Daro will also appear in it.

He added: ‘If so, would mapping the world represent the cultures around the world? If tomorrow these people change the logo with a religious symbol, will it be correct? We will never allow that to happen. ‘

According to Ustad Leghari, Mohan Joo Daru Ka Bel has been a part of Sindh culture for hundreds of years. It is not correct to change it on religious grounds. We demand that the bull logo be restored.

Magazines and periodicals have been regularly published by the Sindhi Literary Board for the past several decades. Among them are three monthly ‘Mehran’ and monthly ‘Gulphul’ and ‘Sartiyan’ magazines.

According to Ustad Leghari, this time Mehran magazine had a new logo with a map of Sindh instead of the old bull logo.

‘There is no truth in the talk of changing people on religious grounds’

The Sindhi Literary Sangat, rejecting the allegations of logo change on religious grounds, said that some people are wasting the time of the literary board and the public by creating unnecessary problems.

The board has published books on the history, civilization and culture of Sindh. They may not have been published by any other institution yet.’

According to him: ‘The Sindhi Literary Board has recently expressed its love for Sindh by naming the main entrance after GM Syed. As for the question of using the bull in the logo, which institution has used the bull in the logo apart from the Literary Board? The purpose of planting the bull was to promote Sindh and now putting the map of Sindh in the logo and naming the door after GM Syed is also to promote the love and personality of Sindh.

According to Mir Ali Shah, spokesperson of the Sindhi Literature Board, this is not the first time that the logo of the Sindhi Literature Board has been changed.

While sending the Sindhi Literary Board’s past logos to Independent Urdu, Mir Ali Shah said that the logo has been changing from time to time.

Talking about the establishment of the Sindhi Literary Board, renowned researcher and historian Dr. Muhammad Pathan said that this board was established in 1940 under the name of Central Board of Promotion of Sindhi Language and Literature. It was the result of the efforts of Education Minister GM Syed. From 1553, textbooks in Sindhi language started to be published. While in 1955 the name of Central Board of Promotion of Sindhi Language and Literature was changed to Sindhi Literary Board.
