(Fargo, ND) — A healthcare advocate is calling for children and teens to wear chest protectors while riding ATVs and UTVs.
“We were seeing an uptick in the number of injuries coming in to our ERs from these ATV or UTV crashes, in alarming numbers,” said Carma Hanson, Safe Kids Coordinator at Altru Health System in Grand Forks.
She says from 2017 to 2019, 17 percent of all vehicular fatalities in the state involving youth also involved recreational vehicles.
Hanson says chest protectors should be worn so that vital organs are protected if the vehicle were to tip or run into something and eject the child.
Hanson appeared on the Jay Thomas Show.
