Protection of Journalists Amendment Bill Removes Punishment Clause for Officer for Failure to Investigate – Pakistan

A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting was held in Islamabad, in which the provision of punishment to a police officer for negligence during investigation was withdrawn from the bill, while the amendment bill for access to information was considered.

In the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, the amendment bill related to the safety of journalists and media professionals was considered.

Meanwhile, Senator Salim Mandviwala said that the officer who neglects the investigation will be imprisoned for 2 to 3 years and fined 1 to 3 lakhs.

On which the Chairman Committee Senator Ali Zafar said that no police officer can be punished for negligence in the investigation, this clause is against the criminal laws.

Meanwhile, anchor Muhammad Malik said that we are talking about a dishonest officer, why should the officers be given protection?
