This is a relief for the owners of the Moulin de la Forge in Hamme-Mille and for the collective which mobilized in the so-called waterfall file… This Monday evening, an informal meeting brought together, at the communal hall of Hamme -Mille, the mayor of Beauvechain, Carole Ghiot, the provincial deputy Marc Bastin, since the project and the request came from the Province of Walloon Brabant, as well as around 150 people, i.e. a strong mobilization during the holiday period.
Jean-François Mitsch, member of the collective, came out of it much more reassured than when he entered it: “The good news is that the deputy has verbally committed to withdrawing the file and to continuing the constructive dialogue begun, alas , a little belatedly… It was only in the face of numerous reactions that, on the side of the Province, we took the trouble to inquire regarding the situation on the spot. We were able to explain our position to the Province and the deputy then went to the field. We were also able to speak positively with the mayor while continuing to raise awareness among the population, since we collected 500 signatures of support”.
An informal meeting was therefore held on Monday evening and, it is clear that the collective had prepared it well. “I must also say that the exchanges were constructive and warm. Basically, the Province wants an extension of the temporary immersion zone (ZIT) but to get the subsidy, it had to enter an environmental project that improves biodiversity , hence the fish trap project… This is where the problem arises. the environmental aspect and its consequences were unacceptable. But here we are, with listening, discussions and understanding of the emotion that this arouses, the MP undertook to consult us and review this project. Why not? by maintaining the fish trap if it is worth it, but not as currently proposed, but by maintaining the waterfall. In short, a new concerted project with the population, the residents… I remember that it is interesting to hear that the Province will consult the committee of the collective to then make a new proposal.”
However, there are still a few questions: “There are still points on which we would like to obtain more information, continues Jean-François Mitsch. We hope that this file will help to make people understand the need to facilitate access to files in the future. The mayor has of course heard that things need to be improved in the process at the urban planning level. Everyone will be a winner. But a dialogue has been established, it is positive and pleasant to have had a cordial meeting. We will see for the mobility aspect, and this phantom of the bypass later, since it was mentioned in the “cascade” dossier. An information meeting with Equilis is scheduled for September. We will see more clearly regarding the development of Hamme-Mille et the two roundregardings. Personally, I wonder why the Municipality does not ask for the change to the sector plan to reassure people. Of course, the Walloon Region can refuse, but it will have to say why…”
