In a difficult situation linked to galloping inflation, the opposition is seeking to find a way out to further protect Moroccan consumers, such as the new bill presented by the Justice and Development Party (PJD).

The parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in the House of Representatives has presented a bill aimed at modifying Law No. 31.08 enacting consumer protection measures.

This proposal aims to protect the consumer from price fluctuations, to control the prices of products, goods and services on the national market, to fight against fraud and speculation and to make consumers aware of their rights while involving the media in their protection.

According to the document, the draft includes an article that provides for informing the consumer and notifying him of any price changes. He considers it necessary that suppliers inform the consumer of any increase in the prices of products and goods, and of any increase in the price of services, at least one week before approving the increase.

In this sense, the bill specifies that the notification must be made through the links broadcast by the public media, within the framework of the requirements of law n ° 77.03 relating to audiovisual communication, provided that the number ” is not less than two different media unless the contract stipulates another duration« .

In addition, this project insists on the need to prevent the rebroadcasting of any of products, goods and services which ” had previously aired prior to the approval of the price increase, unless reference is to the planned increase in “, in order to avoid the manipulations and camouflages that consumers could face.

The PJD thus underlined in its introductory note that the proposal aimed at defining consumer protection measures adds requirements linked to the consumer’s right to information, in particular by notifying him of any increase in consumer prices ” a full week before it is approved by any means possible, including public media« .

Referring to the United Nations Consumer Protection Guidelines, the note clarifies that the issue is not related to ” the quality of commodities and consumables, but rather goes beyond compelling producers to adopt high ethical behavior and encouraging the creation of conditions in markets that provide consumers with choices at lower prices« .
