Chairman of the Association of Manufacturers of Children’s Goods, Works and Services Mikhail Vetrov proposed prohibiting minors from freely accepting applications to be added as friends on social networks. According to him, this was created for the safety of the younger generation.

“Unfortunately, crimes once morest the sexual integrity of minors in our country have not yet been eradicated. And the main tool in such crimes remains the Internet, with the help of which criminals establish contact with victims and gain the trust of children,” said RT Mikhail Vetrov. Vetrov’s appeal was prepared addressed to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev. Vetrov also proposed prohibiting children from registering on any dating sites.

If a minor still wants to add an adult as a friend, he must contact his parent. He, in turn, will decide whether or not the child should communicate with adults on the Internet. According to Vetrov, this will apply only to domestic social networks, including Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki.

For cases when a child communicates with adults without adding them as friends, it is necessary to create a special notification system for parents. This way they will know regarding their child’s virtual life, Vetrov is sure.

Newspaper “News” reports that in 2022, the number of crimes in which children were victims continued to grow. Compared to 2021, their number throughout Russia increased from 90.4 thousand to 103.2.
