Sharjah: Officials visited flats in Sharjah to raise awareness regarding the dangers of falling from buildings. The awareness campaign aims to protect children from the dangers of falling down from balconies and windows.
A team of officials visited several residential buildings across Sharjah to sensitize families on the risks and remind them of the precautions to be taken. Warning stickers were also posted on the buildings. The campaign is being conducted by officials from Sharjah Civil Defence, Police and Municipality departments.
Officials warned that even the slightest carelessness in the case of children living in high-rise buildings might lead to accidents that might result in serious injuries or death. Never leave small children alone near balconies and windows. Do not leave windows and grills open for any reason. These should be kept closed so that children cannot open them by themselves. Allow opening only in the presence of parents when necessary.
Officials reminded that major disasters can be avoided by taking simple and essential precautions. Be careful when using elevators and lobbies. It is best not to let very young children ride the elevator alone.
The directive also states that suitable security locks should be used for windows and entrances to balconies. Officials also reminded that it is important for parents to educate their children regarding the dangers of climbing or hanging from balconies.
The visits of the official team started at Al Nahda in Sharjah. Central and Eastern parts will be visited in the following days.
