The Federal Office of Public Health now recommends flu vaccination for people who have regular contact with poultry or wild birds. This is to avoid simultaneous infection by an avian influenza virus and a human influenza virus.
Flu vaccination is recommended for people from the age of six months with an increased risk of complications, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) reminded Thursday. This includes people with a chronic illness such as a respiratory or heart condition, pregnant women, children born prematurely and all people aged 65 and over.
Vaccination is also recommended for all people who, privately or professionally, are in close contact with people at increased risk of complications.
The OFSP particularly recommends it to members of the same household, medical and nursing staff as well as staff of nurseries, day centers, nursing homes and EMS. This recommendation includes relatives of infants younger than six months, who are at increased risk of complications and who cannot be vaccinated.
National Vaccination Day
Particularly vulnerable people should also be vaccinated once morest Covid-19 to protect themselves from serious illness, continues the OFSP. Both vaccines can be injected simultaneously.
A national flu vaccination day will take place, for the 20th time, on Friday, November 10. Interested people can be vaccinated at a large number of doctor’s practices and pharmacies throughout Switzerland, including without an appointment, at a recommended flat rate of 30 francs.
