Starting this month, high values ​​of ultraviolet radiation are expected to be recorded in the country, according to IDEAM, so it is necessary to maintain due precautions to avoid premature aging, skin spots and eye damage, among other health problems. health.

These high radiation values ​​occur with greater intensity in Antioquia, Santanderes, Tolima, the Coffee Region, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Huila, Cauca and Nariño, and are expected to last for several months in 2024, so it is necessary to maintain safety measures. protection.

According to Daniel Useche Samudio, head (E) of the Ideam Forecasts and Alerts Office:

“At Ideam we suggest you be very careful during this holiday season, since it is very common for the months of December, January, February and March to increase the level of solar radiation in Colombian territory. This situation also brings with it an increase in ultraviolet radiation, which is very harmful to health.”

Using sunscreen, staying in the shade, not practicing outdoor sports at midday, among other recommendations, are essential to avoid being affected by ultraviolet radiation.

“The greatest threat will be maintained especially between 9 in the morning and four in the followingnoon, at which time we have the highest rates of ultraviolet radiation, so we suggest that older adults and children refrain from exposing themselves to solar radiation mainly during this period of time,” added Useche Samudio.

Overexposure to these sun rays can also cause skin cancer.
