2023-08-08 19:00:00

This Monday, an attempted telephone scam was reported, an individual pretending to be a municipal agent solicited the banking information of citizens by telephone under the pretext of making an energy bonus transfer of around 300 to 400 €.

After confirmation from the City’s energy counter, no municipal bonus of this nature is in force. This is undoubtedly an attempted scam, already spotted in other localities such as Saint-Hubert and Libramont a few months ago.

Faced with this alarming situation, the CPAS would like to remind all citizens of the following basic rules to protect themselves once morest telephone scams:

-Hang up immediately if you think you’ve been scammed.

– Never share your banking information or respond to requests to use your Digipass.

– Do not give in to requests to use money transfer companies such as Western Union, Ria Money Transfer, Money Trans, Money Gram, etc., from an unknown contact person. Use these services only if you know the recipient personally.

– Do not rely solely on the phone numbers displayed on your device, as they can be easily purchased online.

These safety instructions are supported by the federal police and can be consulted in detail on their site.

If you are the victim of a scam of this type, it is strongly recommended that you immediately contact your bank in order to stop the payment. Then, go to your police station to file a complaint. You also have the option of filling out a report form on the site. pointdecontact.belgique.be. If you have simply been the victim of an attempt without prejudice, please fill out the report form only.
