The reliable booking site Booking.com has also been overtaken by fraudsters. It’s better to be careful, because they can easily drain the bank cards of those booking accommodation.

It seems that in cyberspace one simply cannot have a receipt. More and more Internet fraudsters appear, the latest victim of which is the popular Internet hotel booking platform, Booking.com. But how can they use a reliable booking site to steal money from those who want to travel?

It is enough if you have an existing reservation. If you receive a message from the hotel or Booking.com a [email protected] from the address, in which it is written that, unfortunately, the payment was unsuccessful and it must be repeated. You will receive a link on which you must enter your payment details once more so that your reservation is not canceled by the accommodation. They often even set a time limit, putting pressure on the victim to transfer the money as soon as possible. You will then be redirected to the Booking clone website. Once you enter your bank card details, your money will be withdrawn quickly.

A gap in the shield?

At this point, many may ask, how do fraudsters know regarding the reservation? The news is spreading on the Internet that hackers hacked Booking.com’s systems, but the booking site denies the claims. According to the company, through various phishing attacks a cybercriminals managed to get it the login details of the partner hotels, so they can access the hotel accounts and send casual messages to the guests through it. At the same time, the hotels claim that they do not have such problems, although in the past fraudsters managed to get into the internal systems of several large hotel chains. The hotels and the booking site point to each other, while more and more customers pay practically twice for the accommodation.

What you can do in this case is not to click on the messages sent from the hotels or from the e-mail already mentioned above, in which they claim that the payment was unsuccessful and provide a link. If you book through Booking.com and have problems with payment, log in to the official website or app and check or change the payment method for your reservation.

It is safest to enter the reservation through the official Booking.com application itself, so you can avoid being navigated to a fake website. If you are worried that your reservation will be canceled by the hotel, contact the hotel directly by phone, do not respond to any e-mails.

If you did click on the clone website sent in the message and paid, then immediately block your bank card, file a police report and contact Booking.com.
