Protect Your Skin PR: Free Educational Event for Dermatological Diseases with Leading Experts and Support Groups

The Medicina y Salud Pública Magazine leads the initiative in alliance with skin care foundations and support groups for patients with dermatological diseases in Puerto Rico.

The educational agenda ofprotect your skin PR’ will be carried out free of charge next Saturday June 10 in Plaza Las Américas, on the second level of the Central Atrium (former Bose premises) from 10 in the morning until 2 in the followingnoon.

At this event, a leading panel of experts in skin care and the treatment of various dermatological diseases will provide guidance to prevent possible complications associated with these conditions. In addition, they will offer informative talks and interactive sessions with patients, with the aim of sharing recommended care habits.

Among the main dermatological diseases that dermatology specialists will address are:

-Psoriasis

– Atopic Dermatitis

-Hidradenitis Suppurativa

-Prurigo nodular

-Skin cancer

At 10 in the morning, the talk by Dr. José González Chávez, dermatologist and researcher in skin diseases, will begin. The doctor will address the diagnostic criteria for psoriasis, the treatment route for patients, and the importance of multidisciplinary treatment.

Subsequently, Dr. Alma Cruz, dermatologist, will continue, who will explain the main updates in the diagnosis and treatment of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Puerto Rico, in addition to the clinical guidelines for the condition.

During this talk, the patients of the Golondrinos Hidradenitis Suppurativa Group will also share their testimonies of living with the disease and the challenges they have faced to achieve symptom control.

Around 10:50 in the morning, Dr. Eneida de la Torre, dermatologist, researcher and professor at the Universidad Central del Caribe, will provide guidance on the management of atopic dermatitis, a condition that affects 10% of the population of Puerto Rico.

Skin cancer is also another disease that is on the rise in the population. This talk will be conducted by Dr. Hiram Ruiz Santiago, a leading Puerto Rican dermatologist and specialist in Mohs surgery.

Around 11:40 in the morning, Dr. Luis Espinosa, Nova Derm Puerto Rico’s medical director, will participate in a talk on nodular prurigo, where he will explain the etiology, diagnosis, and available treatments for this condition.

After noon, important foundations and support groups for patients with dermatological conditions will report on the experiences they have lived through the help they provide to patients in Puerto Rico.

This is an Initiative led by the Journal of Medicine and Public Health in alliance with Fundación Piel, the Puerto Rican Association for Aid to Psoriasis Patients, Living with Atopic Dermatitis, VOCES PR, Grupo Hidradenitis Suppurativa Golondrinos and the Support Alliance for Patients with Dermatitis Atopic.
