“Prosumer Solar Panel Contracts: Hidden Costs and Smart Solutions”

2023-05-10 12:15:00

In recent months, several suppliers have reviewed the contracts of the owners of solar panels, including additional costs for those who are called prosumer customers (consumers and producers of energy, editor’s note). An increase that might reach €400 to €700 per year for customers who only paid for their actual consumption (production of solar panels deducted, therefore). The suppliers explain this by a loss of profit since these customers cost money to their supplier. In short, they feed cheap electricity back into the grid in the summer, and consume more expensive grid electricity in the winter. The value of a kWh is not necessarily the same depending on the time of year, therefore.

A method that makes people cringe but which is completely legal, as long as the supplier does not impose it overnight. This can therefore be taken into account in a new contract signed by the consumer. We are also thinking of the introduction of smart meters to replace those that run backwards. Here once more, the idea is to better target the real consumption of the households concerned, in addition to what they discharge into the network. More than ever, adding a battery to its installation becomes interesting and allows the least possible rejection of electricity in the network.
