Prostate Cancer Awareness Day in Miliana: Early Detection and Treatment

A scientific day on the theme was held at the EPH Fares Yahia in Miliana, organized in collaboration with the El Fedjr association for helping people with cancer in Aïn Defla.

Raising awareness regarding prostate cancer is necessary to enable men to become aware and to be screened “early” in order to increase the chances of recovery, doctors indicated during a meeting on the subject in Miliana.

“Through awareness campaigns, we can make people understand that this disease exists and that it is necessary to be detected early,” declared Dr Djoudi Hamza, urologist at the public hospital (EPH) of Chlef, during of a scientific day which was held at the EPH Fares Yahia in Miliana and organized in collaboration with the El Fedjr association for helping people with cancer in Ain Defla.

The urologist emphasized the need to “talk regarding this disease”, particularly for general practitioners who are the first to see the patient. “We need to increase awareness and publicize this disease within society,” added the urology specialist, stressing that early detection increases the chances of recovery from prostate cancer.

Regarding the medical treatment of this disease, Dr. Miloudi Rafik, oncologist at the EPH Mekkour Hamou in Ain Defla, affirmed for his part that medical treatment is “available at the level of health structures that whether in hormone therapy, chemotherapy or new generation hormone therapy (HNG).”

He indicated, in the same context, that the measures taken recently by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the benefit of people suffering from cancer, “have facilitated access to hormone therapy treatment for this category of cancer patients. “.

As for other treatments, notably chemotherapy and new generation hormone therapy, in the event of metastasis, the oncologist indicated that they existed at hospital level. Note that an early detection campaign for prostate cancer was organized yesterday Tuesday at the Miliana EPH.

Around a hundred men aged over 50 were screened, according to Dr. Allali Radia, president of the El Fedjr association. She added that two private medical analysis laboratories participated in the screening campaign by providing free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) analyses.

For his part, Hadj Djilali Mohamed, head of the continuing training unit within the EPH Fares Yahia, called on local authorities to open new oncology units in the wilaya’s health structures with the aim of to improve the care of cancer patients.
