Prospects for bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Kenya

As a reflection of the UAE’s direction to advance international partnerships and play a political, economic and humanitarian role in the African arena, the Government of the UAE and the Government of Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 18, 2024 to establish establish new partnerships.
The memorandum was signed during the fourth meeting of the Joint Council between the UAE and the Republic of Kenya, in line with the UAE Government’s Knowledge Exchange Program initiative, which aims to develop relations between the UAE and countries at all levels through various tools, including imparting knowledge to African countries knowledge, expand the UAE’s contribution to capacity building, enhance the expertise of African cadres, and support organizational and institutional work in line with the directives of wise leadership to expand horizons to promote constructive cooperation and active partnerships at the international level, thus contributing to strengthening the international A cooperative environment and participation in the global process of creating a better future.
These also include diversifying the tools of the UAE movement to develop joint relations with Kenya, with the allocation of 1,500 per directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the country, may God bless him million to help those affected by the floods and torrential rains that swept across Kenya, displacing hundreds of people and destroying roads, bridges, homes, health facilities and farmland in many areas.

Such partnerships also support stability in Kenya and empower the government through a variety of tools, including promoting the development of government services, proactive initiatives and initiating capacity-building programs for government service personnel, through the adoption of global standards, the development of Public policy and promotion of entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development.
The UAE’s direction and policies are aimed at developing a path of cooperation with Kenya and supporting its institutional structures. This is inseparable from the background of the UAE’s policies towards African countries. These policies are based on a “mutually beneficial” strategy, which was concretely reflected in the agreement reached between the UAE and Kenya in February last year. terms of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
This promising partnership reflects the UAE’s bets and goals in building trade momentum between the two countries, especially given the upward trend in non-oil trade volumes, which will grow by 26.4% in 2023 to reach over $3 billion. This compares to $2.4 billion in 2022. Includes food production, mining, technology and logistics sectors.
Against this background, the UAE Ministry of Investment and the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy signed a memorandum of understanding in April last year, laying the foundation for investment cooperation between the two countries in the field of digital infrastructure and technology. The cooperation also includes data center projects. and artificial intelligence research and development, and providing incentives to support investment initiatives and projects in the digital economy, which can become the main driver of growth in all other industries, constitute and define a clear vision.
The challenges faced by many African countries have received an immediate response from UAE institutions, through high-quality campaigns, diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives based on achieving common interests, supporting African people and developing their cadres, through high-quality campaigns, diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives aimed at developing common relations and strengthening Africa Institutional planning for national resilience.
