Prosecutors seek life in prison for mastermind of Paris attacks

Prosecutors have demanded a life sentence for the main suspect of masterminding the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks.
Prosecutor Camille Hentier said Friday at the Palais de Justice in Paris that Salah Abdeslam was a key figure in the attacks.
She added that, due to the gravity of the crimes he was accused of committing, a sentence should be issued in which there was no possibility of reducing the prison term.
Abd al-Salam is considered the only survivor of the terrorist act at the time.
Hinter said that he presented himself as a soldier in the terrorist organization ISIS and adhered to this doctrine until the end.
In addition to Salah Abdeslam, 19 other suspects have to appear before the High Court, which has been in operation since last fall.
Public prosecutors demanded prison terms ranging from five years to life in prison for the defendants.
In addition, according to the Public Prosecution Office, many defendants must obtain temporary or permanent residence bans in France.
The court is looking into the crimes of a series of attacks that took place on November 13, 2015, in which extremists killed a total of 130 people and wounded 350 others.
Extremists have caused a massacre at the Bataclan concert hall and opened fire on cafes and restaurants in the east of the French capital. Three suicide bombers also blew themselves up that evening during an international soccer match between Germany and France at the Stade de France stadium in Paris.
The terrorist organization ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
