Prosecutors have launched a forced investigation into a Democratic Party politician who is accused of receiving illegal political funds.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office’s 2nd Anti-Corruption Investigation Division (Prosecutor Kim Young-cheol) and Public Investigation Division 2 (Director Lee Sang-hyun) were charged with mediation under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes and violation of the Public Official Election Act the day before, the former Democratic Party’s aunt (59). His residence and office were seized and searched.
It is known that Lee is accused of receiving hundreds of millions of won in money from a businessman for three years from 2019.
Prosecutors are also said to have caught the circumstances in which Mr. Lee promised to provide business convenience to the businessman and received money.
The prosecution plans to summon Lee as a suspect soon following analyzing the confiscated material.
Lee, who served as the secretary-general of the Democratic Party, ran for the re- and by-elections of the National Assembly held along with the presidential election in March.
