The Prosecutor’s Office requested the Court of Madrid to clarify the facts for which Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is being investigated, due to the “uncertainty” and “procedural drift” of the judge in charge of the case of alleged influence peddling and business corruption.
The prosecutor criticised Judge Juan Carlos Peinado for his “vague” and “lack of precision” actions in a procedure initiated following a complaint by the Manos Limpias group, a self-proclaimed union close to the far right, which is based on information from the media.
Prosecutors request the real facts to investigate President Sánchez’s wife
The prosecution, which had previously requested that the case be closed, now joins the request of Gómez’s defense to close the investigation, arguing that there is no evidence to justify opening a full investigation once morest him.
In his statement, the prosecutor criticised Judge Peinado for failing to comply with the guidelines established in May, which indicated the existence of a first set of data that was “implausible” and “erroneous”, and another that was simply a “conjecture”.
