The regional prosecutor of Los Ríos, Tatiana Esquivel, confirmed this Wednesday that the cause of death of former president Sebastián Piñera was asphyxiation due to submersion.
“Among the different procedures carried out is the autopsy, which was carried out at the Valdivia Legal Medical Service. This autopsy was performed at night and this morning the result of the procedure was reported. “We are able to report that the medical-legal cause is submersion asphyxiation,” explained the pursuer.
The former president lost his life in a plane accident yesterday in Lago Ranco, following his helicopter crashed while he was traveling from Bahía Coique – where his summer home is located – to Llifén, along with his sister Magdalena, his friend Ignacio Guerrero and the son of the latter.
Along these lines, the Public Ministry detailed that it continues with the investigations to establish the circumstances of the accident that led to the fall of the ship.
“Now what is coming are the expert reports related to the helicopter that crashed in Lake Ranco to be able to establish the cause and origin of the accident, and to be able to find the dynamics of the events,” he indicated.
However, Esquivel was emphatic in pointing out that “for now it is premature to be able to develop a complete hypothesis of what happened. However, the autopsy is giving us information that allows us to reconstruct the facts.”
Along these lines, the rescue of the helicopter from Lake Ranco will be essential to conclude these proceedings, but the Prosecutor’s Office specified that said procedure will be the last to be carried out due to its complexity.
