The prosecution, which is investigating researchers at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, which developed the Korean launch vehicle Nuri, on charges of technology leak, searched and seized the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on the 31st.
According to the prosecution on the 31st, the Patent Crime Investigation Department of the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yun-yong) searched and seized the Port Wooyeon in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon this morning. It was reported that this search and seizure was aimed at securing data on four researchers from Anti-Industry Research Institute who were accused of violating the Industrial Technology Protection Act and the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act.
Recently, the Ministry of Science and ICT conducted a specific audit regarding technology leaks on researchers moving from the Aerospace Research Institute to Hanwha Aerospace and then requested the prosecution to investigate. Prosecutors are expected to intensively investigate whether the researchers leaked actual technology to change jobs.
It has been reported that the accused researchers were confirmed to have attached and removed storage devices such as hard disks from the AI computer. They are also suspected of having intensively viewed related data since May of this year, following the successful launch of Nuri.
In response to this, the researchers are known to be explaining that it was not a technology leak, and that it was just something they did as a custom while traveling between the Daejeon Aerospace Research Institute headquarters and the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do. However, the Ministry of Science and ICT reportedly viewed this as a violation of regulations and took action to file a complaint.
An official from the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office said, “In relation to the case where the Ministry of Science and ICT requested an investigation into the Korea Aerospace Research Institute for suspicion of leaking Korean-type launch vehicle technology following an audit of the Aerospace Research Institute, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute and others conducted a search and seizure.” He added, “I cannot confirm the specific details.” “There is none,” he said.
