The Guarantee Court of Puente Alto this Thursday left Francisco Ismael Gajardo Quiroga subject to the precautionary measure of preventive detention, accused by the Public Ministry as the author of the completed crime of simple homicide, following the death of a young man while bungee jumping, in the commune of San José de Maipo, Metropolitan Region.

At the formalization hearing, Judge Romina Onetto ordered the admission of Gajardo Quiroga to the Puente Alto Preventive Detention Center, considering that the freedom of the accused constitutes a danger to the security of society.

According to the Public Ministry, Francisco Gajardo Quiroga agreed to jump with the victim, Diego Albornoz Coronado, without having the permits to operate or the appropriate technical implements.

According to the prosecuting entity, at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, on the way to Alfalfal in the commune of San José de Maipo, the accused, who introduced himself as a bungee instructor, agreed to a jump with the victim, Diego Sebastián Albornoz Coronado, from 23 years old, without having the permits to operate or the appropriate technical implements.

The defendant incorrectly installed the harness on the victim, who jumped into the void and remained suspended in the air for almost half an hour.

Although the young man asked Gajardo Quiroga for help, he did not help him.

The victim finally died at the scene, due to positional asphyxiation and external cervical compression.
