The prosecution, which has been investigating the Seongnam FC sponsorship allegation, has caught the situation in which Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, directly instructed him to find a way to recover development profits while he was mayor of Seongnam.
On the 30th of last month, the prosecution indicted former Seongnam City Strategic Promotion Team leader Mo Kim and former CEO of Doosan E&C on charges of bribery. This mayor conspired with them, including directing them to seek them out.”
According to the MBC coverage, the prosecution in November 2014, when Seongnam City was reviewing the issue of changing the use of Doosan E&C’s medical site and increasing the floor area ratio, the mayor at the time Lee Jae-myung said, ‘Review and report a plan to recover some of the profits’. I think it’s ordered.
The following year, Doosan E&C signed an agreement to donate 10% in return for change of use, etc., and to provide KRW 5 billion to Seongnam FC, where CEO Lee also owns the club.
Seongnam City decided to raise half of the 15 billion won in operating funds through corporate sponsorship and a public offering for citizens when the Tongil Group related to the Unification Church took over Seongnam Ilhwa, which had given up its management, as a civic club at the end of 2013.
The prosecution believes that Lee Jae-myung may not be able to keep his political promises when the actual fundraising amount is insufficient to meet the goal, so he believes that he received unfair support from companies with pending licensing issues.
Representative Lee previously criticized the application of third-party bribery, saying, “Profits from Seongnam FC belong to Seongnam City, and it is impossible for the mayor, the owner of the club, to make a profit.”
