The San Francisco Complex Crimes Prosecutor, Bernardo Alberione, was emphatic in considering that the cases of cover-up must advance in Justice and that those who commit this crime must be tried.

The official made these statements to La Voz following learning that the investigation he carried out together with his work team in the case where Leandro Sacco, a 26-year-old man who is in custody and who is accused of having drugged, will be tried was confirmed. a 17-year-old girl and then rape her. The act would have been committed in August 2021.

Sacco was a fugitive for regarding six months until he was caught in the town of San Nicolás de los Arroyos in the province of Buenos Aires. In the search for him, around 40 police raids were carried out and an international arrest warrant was even issued through Interpol.

parallel cause

In order to remain a fugitive for so long, the investigators maintain that he needed a “chain” of concealers who kept him away from Justice for that entire period of time.

For this reason, Alberione opened a parallel case where he charged two other people, who would be summoned to trial shortly.

“Causes to cover up a crime normally do not end up being done. In my case, I got into the habit of doing them because the State spends a lot of money and other resources to search for a fugitive from Justice. So if this does not have consequences, these behaviors are encouraged. Helping to evade Justice also complicates the work of investigators,” the prosecutor highlighted.

These defendants were identified as Javier Fernández, a former police officer, and a woman named Alessi, who would be a friend of Sacco’s mother.

Judicial sources confirmed to this newspaper both will be summoned to trial. In Alessi’s case, she is accused of having accompanied Sacco’s mother in an alleged attempt to convince the victim to change her statement in exchange for money. Her mother, meanwhile, cannot be accused since she is a direct relative of the main defendant.

Fernández, for his part, is a former member of the Argentine National Gendarmerie who was arrested in September 2022, in the province of Formosa. There was an arrest warrant on him since he was accused of hiding the gray Honda Fit car that Sacco used the night he left with the young woman from a nightclub that weekend of August 14, 2021. There would even have been used a false identification of the national force. In that province he would have marketed the vehicle. He would even have been present in one of the police operations inside the fugitive’s home.

Although the Penal Code penalizes with imprisonment from six months to three years the one who, following committing a crime executed by another, in which he had not participated, has helped someone to evade the investigations of the authority; hide, alter or make the traces, evidence or instruments of the crime disappear, or help the perpetrator or participant to hide, alter or make them disappear, among other things, it is a prison sentence.

“It is not fair that this does not have those responsible. The Justice invested a lot of time and effort, as well as means of all kinds, in this search when Sacco was a fugitive,” Alberione said.

Confirmation

Last week, the Bell Ville Prosecution Chamber confirmed the investigation carried out by the San Francisco Complex Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, in a case that transcended the borders of Córdoba and the country.

It was the last instance to which the defense in charge of Mario Ruiz might appeal, who objected to evidence and forms in the investigation. Now, the file will fall on the San Francisco Crime Chamber, from where they will set a date for the hearings.
