The Bureau of the Council of States has unanimously decided to propose the creation of a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CEP) into the Credit Suisse affair. This decision joins that of the office of the National, taken in March.
The decision was taken unanimously, Council of States President Brigitte Häberli-Koller told Keystone-ATS.
With the agreement of the office of the Council of States, the office of the National can now formulate a precise mandate for such a commission of inquiry. This should be responsible for establishing the responsibilities of the authorities and bodies regarding the takeover of Credit Suisse by UBS.
Federal decree
Before a CEP begins its work, the two Chambers must adopt a federal decree to establish it. They might do it in the summer semester. The Federal Council is also consulted, but does not have the right to object.
The CEP is the strongest instrument available to Parliament. It has the same right to information as the supervisory commission delegations. This CEP would be the fifth in Swiss political history.
