Proposed Constitutional Amendment: National Assembly Session Time Changed, Called 6 PM Today – Pakistan

By changing the schedule of the National Assembly session, it will be held today (Friday) at 6 pm instead of 11 am under the chairmanship of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

A 15-point agenda of the meeting has been released. There is no constitutional amendment on the agenda of the meeting. According to the sources, in case of agreement, the constitutional amendment will be brought as a supplementary agenda.

Sources said that the motion to suspend the regular agenda for constitutional amendment will be approved. Also, according to the agenda, the Deposit Protection Corporation Amendment Bill 2024 will be presented for legislation.

In the agenda, the law for the establishment of a special court to protect the property of overseas Pakistanis, the National Commission on the Status of Women Amendment Bill 2024, the Pakistan Infrastructure Development and Asset Management Authority Bill 2024, the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention Implementation Bill 2024 will be presented for approval.

The agenda also includes a notice to draw attention to the failure of Pakistan Railways to pay monthly salaries to the employees on time.

It should be noted that the approval of the constitutional amendment is still facing many hurdles. The meetings of the Special Parliamentary Committee, Federal Cabinet, Senate and National Assembly were called today.

The meeting of the parliamentary committee will be held at 11 am, after consensus in the meeting, the amendment will be presented to the federal cabinet. While the Senate will meet today at 2 PM with a 7-point agenda, the Constitutional Amendment Bill is not part of the agenda of the Senate meeting.

The amendments are likely to be tabled in the Senate after approval by the Federal Cabinet. The meeting of the National Assembly was earlier convened at 11 am, but now the meeting will be held at 6 pm.

After approval by the National Assembly, the law will be sent to the President for signature. Meanwhile, an important consultative meeting of the coalition parties was also held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister took the leaders into confidence on the constitutional amendment, the allies have assured the Prime Minister of their support.
