Prophetess Arrested After Woman and Newborn Die During Childbirth at Akure Church

In a shocking turn of events, a self-proclaimed prophetess, Folashade Kikiowo Adekola, has been apprehended by the Ondo State Police Command following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Jumoke Adesuwa and her newborn.

Reports indicate that Adesuwa suffered fatal complications from excessive bleeding after giving birth at the prophetess’s church, Christ Engracing Deliverance Ministry, situated in the Oke-Aro area of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State.

The newborn infant, unfortunately, did not survive the delivery, passing away almost immediately after birth.

The arrest of the prophetess was initiated after Adesuwa’s brother approached the Oke Aro Police Station to disclose the grim circumstances surrounding his sister’s death.

Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the arrest during an interview on Tuesday, November 12, emphasizing that Adekola has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further inquiries into the case.

“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, who informed us that his sister died after childbirth in the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Odunlami elaborated on the matter.

It has come to light that Adesuwa had reportedly left her home for several days to seek spiritual guidance at the church, which she had not disclosed to her husband prior to her departure.

A family source, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that Jumoke’s husband, Ayodele Adesuwa, had previously provided her with funds to register at a government hospital for her delivery. She, however, silently ventured to the church without informing him of her intentions, seeking spiritual incarceration for the purpose of her childbirth.

“The husband of the deceased came from the farm in Idanre after five days away from home and asked for his wife. So, one of the neighbors informed him that she had left for church to be delivered of a baby,” the source recounted.

“Later, someone from the church called to inform him that his wife had successfully delivered a baby. The deceased’s husband reached out to me, and we hurried to the church known as ‘Muzuzo’ located at Oke-Aro.”

“Upon our arrival, we were told that the baby had died during the delivery; however, they assured us that the mother was still alive. Yet, when we saw her, she was in a pool of blood, bleeding profusely. We quickly transported her to a nearby hospital,” the source continued, detailing the chaotic scene.

“Due to the deteriorating condition of the deceased, she was unfortunately refused admission at three different hospitals, and she eventually succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the last hospital that accepted her.”

“To our shock, when we returned to the church to retrieve the baby’s remains, we discovered the deceased infant’s corpse in a room within the church premises. The state of the room was alarming and did not resemble a proper delivery area,” the family source added.

“We decided to report our findings to the Oke-Aro Police Station in Akure, which ultimately resulted in the arrest of the prophetess responsible for the church. The remains of Jumoke Adesuwa have since been placed in the mortuary for further examination,” he concluded.
