Proper Waste Sorting Guidelines and Solutions for Charleroi Tibi Waste Collection

2023-08-05 14:00:00

Regularly, whether fortnightly or otherwise, the Charleroi Tibi waste collection intercommunal collects “blue” or PMC bags door to door. In these bags supposed to contain some 14 fractions are found, however, waste that cannot be found there. When the loaders notice that a bag contains waste that cannot be found there, the bag is left behind and a sticker representing a red hand is affixed to it. By opening the sticker the reason for the non-recovery is explained there.

But what happens to the bags with red hands left on the public highway?

“First of all, it is a question of the people who left these bags taking them back and several solutions are available to them. Either they sort the contents of the bag once more, or the PMC bag is simply put in a white bag”, we are told by Tibi. Despite this possible choice, at the waste collection intermunicipal company, we notice that some bags remain on the way. “In these cases, the public cleanliness service often comes 48 hours following the first visit and picks up the abandoned bags. As they are already not properly sorted, although we have a much more efficient sorting system at Valtris, we must consider these bags as containing conventional residual waste. They are therefore not sorted but sent to the energy recovery unit. They are incinerated whereas if they had been properly sorted they would have been recycled. ”

In order to facilitate the work of shippers, a “Quality Brigade” roams the streets to check the conformity of the contents of the bags. The uploaders themselves have all the necessary expertise to invalidate content. “While there are still red hand stickers on PMC bags, we are seeing less evidence that improved sorting and increased fractions harvested are a good thing. ”

As a reminder, here is what is still not included:

the frigolite that surrounds an object in a cardboard box (but wedging chips are accepted), plastic + aluminum mixtures (biscuits, coffee, medicines, “Capri-sun” type drinks); plastic objects that are not household packaging (toys, buckets, tablecloths, jackets, boots, pipes, etc.); agricultural and horticultural films, building materials and tarpaulins; packaging containing toxic substances, drain cleaners, corrosive toilet descalers or motor oils.
