The Togolese authorities are sparing no effort to strengthen the socio-professional integration of young people. Many initiatives have been implemented, including the creation of work-study training institutes for development (IFAD) and support for young graduates from these training centres.
Train young people and integrate them effectively into the Togolese socio-economic fabric: this is indeed the mission assigned to these institutes which present themselves as qualifying and diploma schools which offer a real possibility of meeting the needs for adequate vocational training for young people, in such a way so that they can have a decent job in line with new developments in the labor market.
The government’s ambition is to build regarding ten IFADs in total by 2025. Apart from the Ifad in Elavagnon dedicated to aquaculture, there is that of Barkoissi oriented towards breeding and another Ifad is devoted to building in Lomé. An Ifad project is underway in the capital. It is dedicated to renewable energies and the progress of the work was estimated at 72% in March 2023.
At Ifad in Elavagnon, a first promotion was certified in February 2023, three years following the opening of the institute. It is made up of 113 young people, including 27 girls, who are seasoned winners in the technical and practical knowledge necessary for the creation and operation of aquaculture farms.
A better support for graduates of these IFADs, the Ministry of Grassroots Development, Youth and Youth Employment signed in the second half of March 2023, two partnership agreements with the Education Development Agency (AED ) and the Coopec-AD in order to mobilize funding for graduates and future learners of these training institutes, to co-finance their business plans so that the chances of creating their own businesses are therefore optimized.
