Reinforcing the actions of promotion and positioning of Yucatan in the American Union, the head of the Secretary of Tourism Development of the State (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman, representing Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, accompanied the head of the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, during the work tour “Operation Toca Puertas” in the United States.

Officials held a series of meetings with some of the biggest players in California’s tourism industry.

California is the fifth largest economy globally; in 2022, California’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was $1.98 trillion; this positions it as the largest national subunit in the world economy. The most populous city is Los Angeles, but other important cities are San Francisco, San Diego and San José, in addition to being the most populous state in the country, with 39,029,342 inhabitants, according to the 2022 census.

Torruco and Michelle Fridman began the work tour in San Francisco, California, where they met with the directors of the San Francisco International Airport and SF Travel, the city’s tourist agency; in addition to Global SF, an organization dedicated to paving the way for international companies to locate, invest and grow in the San Francisco Bay Area and Kidder Mathews, the largest independent commercial real estate firm on the West Coast, among others, with whom different topics were reviewed, including the opportunities for the joint promotion of tourist flows, the trends of the bilateral relationship with Mexico and possible investments in the tourism sector.

Continuing with the objective of the tour, on the second day of activities, the officials and the Mexican delegation held the seminar “This is Mexico” at the General Consulate of Mexico in San Francisco with key players in the local tourism industry. , as tour operators and local travel agencies, where the secretary Michelle Fridman took the opportunity to emphasize the wide tourist offer in Yucatan, as well as the high levels of security that exist in the state, which allows an environment of tranquility and confidence for visitors.

They seek to strengthen connectivity due to the large community of Yucatecans

Fridman commented that, according to the records, one of the two largest communities of Yucatecan migrants is located in this region, “so for several years we have tried to strengthen this market and connectivity, first achieving the Volaris flight with connection in Oakland and in the same way, from Sefotur, we have worked to strengthen the California market as a result of the direct flight with Tijuana and that connects through the CBX with this region of the United States”.

During the tour they also held meetings with Alaska Airlines, the media and with representatives of the Oakland International Airport, where they were accompanied by the Consul General of Mexico in San Francisco, Remedios Gómez Arnau.
