Promoting Workplace Well-being in Peru: Strategies for Mental Health and Economic Growth

2023-12-23 10:35:00

In Peru, labor well-being is an increasingly important issue. Research from Harvard and Stanford shows that this has a number of benefits for workers: they are more productive, less likely to be absent from work, and more likely to recommend their employers to others. This can have a positive impact on the country’s economy.

However, in the Peruvian reality, labor welfare does not exist or is very scarce. Its absence can cause stress and exhaustion, and can trigger burnout syndrome. This syndrome, which was previously considered common, was recognized as an occupational disease by the World Health Organization in January 2022.

Taking into account the above, it is urgent to implement strategies that promote mental health and balance between work and personal life in Peru with the support of organizational psychology. Therefore, the promotion of mental health must be a priority. Creating an environment where employees feel comfortable expressing their concerns and receiving the necessary support contributes significantly to reducing work stress and anxiety. Additionally, it can help organizations assess the well-being needs of workers and create a more inclusive work culture.

Promoting solid workplace well-being will not only positively impact the quality of life of workers, but will also contribute to the sustainable economic development of Peru. It is time to recognize that investing in the well-being of employees is not only a social responsibility, but also a smart strategy to build a healthier and more productive work environment for the benefit of all.
