Promoting Sustainable Fashion: Las Traperas at Jockey Plaza Shopping Center

Jockey Plaza shopping centeras part of its campaign “The happiness you give, comes back”, seeks to promote new initiatives related to caring for the environment, such as sustainable fashion.

That is why, under this new pillar, a new second-hand clothing store and a mural made with garments that no longer have a commercial value have been inaugurated in its facilities.

Specific, The circular fashion company Las Traperas opened its first physical location in the Jockey Plaza mall. Through this space, they plan to promote the recycling and recirculation of disused clothing items. The Las Traperas project, led by Paola Pioltelli, was the first formal second-hand clothing venture in the country, and currently has twelve years of experience.

So far, through the brand’s initiatives, the use of millions of gallons of water, tons of CO2 and thousands of packaging for clothing items have been avoided. It should be noted that it was Las Traperas who helped Falabella in carrying out its first barter fairs in Peru.

The store is located across the food court, across from the GMO location.

On the occasion of the inauguration of this new premises, various activities open to the public will be taking place during the month of July. For example, this Thursday the 13th there will be an Upcycling workshop, while on Wednesday the 19th there will be an Ayurveda workshop; and on Thursday 20 a vase design workshop. All of them in the same store, at 7:30 pm and with limited spaces (you can register here).

Sustainable fashion at Jockey Plaza

On the other hand, and with the aim of promoting art and sustainable fashion, the Jockey Plaza shopping center has installed a mural of used clothing items. In this intervention, 38 jeans of different sizes and colors, 23 t-shirts, some polar and microfiber pieces were used.

The operation was in charge of the artist Fiorella M. Jaramillo, designer of emerging futures and project manager of recyclable, a laboratory that experiments with the life cycle of waste. He also supported Diego A. Rossell D., an architect and plastic artist, among other collaborators of the Recicloso team, in the idealization, production, and manufacture of the piece.

The mural is divided into 5 panels attached to each other with velcro, so that it can be reused and adapted to the different stores in Jockey Plaza, since the shopping center is committed to continue working on sustainability under the slogan “The happiness you give, returns”.
