The American University of Sharjah held a series of events for the month of October, focusing on promoting mental health and breast cancer awareness. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah, also witnessed the Pink October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign organized by the College of Business Administration on Thursday.

The American University of Sharjah organized a group of events and activities for the month of October, focusing on promoting mental health and breast cancer awareness. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah, also witnessed, on Thursday, October 12, the Pink October campaign for breast cancer awareness organized by the College of Management. Work at the university, and a lecture by Mrs. Dr. Basma Al Said, psychotherapist, clinical hypnotherapist and founder of the Whispers of Stillness Clinic, as part of the university’s celebrations of Mental Health Week, organized by the University’s Office of Student Affairs.

Sheikha Bodour said: “Health, both mental and physical, plays a crucial role in influencing who we are and everything we achieve as people, which is why the leadership of the American University of Sharjah takes the health of its community into consideration in many decision-making processes, from the services and facilities we provide, to behaviors and guidance.” “And enhancing the awareness that we do, the key to a happy and healthy university community is understanding and mitigating risks, and building a health-conscious culture, where we are not afraid to talk regarding our health, and care regarding our personal well-being as much as the well-being of the people around us.”

Pink Oktoberfest, supported by Thumbay Hospital and Danube Home, included an auction showcasing works by distinguished artists Sarah Al Aqroubi, Ali Kashwani, Ismail Al Rifai and Hala Zamani, as well as a display of exclusive jewelery pieces that included jewelery earrings designed by Lynn Sulaiman.

During her visit to the auction, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi was accompanied by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah, Sultan bin Saud Al Qasimi, founder of the Barjeel Arts Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Sharjah, and a number of senior officials.

The Pink October event also included a festival organized by the work team of the Dean’s Office of the College of Business Administration and the Emirati Student Cultural Club, in the presence of the American University of Sharjah community, during which a variety of food, entertainment games, kiosks, and much more were displayed.

Proceeds from the auction and festival are scheduled to go to the Pink Caravan, an Emirati initiative that supports the breast cancer awareness campaign and its treatment, which in turn provided free breast cancer screenings for attendees.

“This event symbolizes American University’s dedication to serving the community and promoting public health,” said Dr. Narges Boubakri, Dean of the College of Business Administration. “We are very grateful for the support of the university’s students, employees, and guests. Initiatives like this empower and educate our community regarding public health issues and foster a culture of giving.”

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi also attended, as part of the Mental Health Week activities at the American University of Sharjah, a lecture given by Mrs. Dr. Basma Al Said, in which she spoke regarding the importance of psychological first aid and eliminating the stigma related to mental health. The lecture also addressed practical ways to help individuals identify… Potential mental health problems and ways to address them.
