The Spanish Society of Integrative Medicine (SESMI) had a prominent presence at the II International Congress of Integrative Medicine and Health, which was held in Rome from September 20 to 23.

The Spanish delegation was led by the president of SESMI, Dr. Isabel Giralt, who played a fundamental role in the event by being part of the International Organizing Committee of the event, contributing to the organization and success of the congress.

The conference brought together integrative medicine experts and practitioners from around the world to share knowledge and experiences in this growing discipline. SESMI played a crucial role in promoting and disseminating this approach to comprehensive healthcare.

In addition, SESMI was represented at the congress by Dr. Esther Martínez García, who presented the presentation “Pioneer integrative pediatric oncology unit in Spain: advances in care models and clinical objectives.” This presentation highlighted the importance of integrative medicine in pediatric cancer treatment and how it is improving patient care at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona.

The presence of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), at the congress provided strong support for integrative medicine as an important part of the future of global healthcare. His support emphasizes the need to consider holistic and complementary approaches in contemporary medicine.

Among the most notable presentations attended by the SESMI delegation was Helene Langevin’s Keynote Lecture, titled “Integrative Health: the challenges and potential rewards of overcoming barriers.” Claire Oppert also presented her work on “Music in palliative care: The Schubert Treatment: clinical studies and reflections”, demonstrating the diversity of approaches within integrative medicine.

It should also be noted that the process of creating two international working groups began: Integrative Oncology and Integrative Pediatrics, to which SESMI provided collaboration and support.

Also emphasize that all SESMI members continue to be part of the European Society of Integrative Medicine and that they will be represented in the next four years by Dr. Isabel Giralt on the Expanded Board of this society.

In summary, SESMI’s active participation in the II International Congress of Integrative Medicine in Rome reaffirms society’s commitment to the promotion and advancement of integrative medicine in Spain and in the world.

The experience and knowledge shared at this event will continue to contribute to the growth and development of this constantly evolving discipline.
