“Women have their place, whether on the ground or in administration. I used the difficulties I had to experience to become a footballer to be today within the administration of the Senegalese Football Federation,” she testified.

“We had talent, but we lacked harmonization because we did not give importance to women in women’s football, and the funds were mainly used for men,” she added.

“So I committed to changing things and the proof is that 10 years later the Senegalese women’s team was able to obtain qualifications, something that was unthinkable before,” she continued. Today, the Women’s Football Committee is made up of women.

For her part, Clémentine Touré, coach of the Ivory Coast women’s football team, observed that female athletes are trying “with CAF to change the image of women’s football. (Because), we often talk regarding women’s football or men’s football when there is only one football.

“If we manage to get people to accept that football, like other sporting disciplines and any other sport for that matter, is played in the same way by women as by men, I think we can change things” , she estimated.

UN Women was created to accelerate progress in meeting the needs of women everywhere. In Côte d’Ivoire, UN Women is emphasizing certain priority areas.
