Manama > Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Iran on Saturday for an official visit. He met with the President of Iran Ibrahim Raisi in the capital Tehran. Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that during the meeting, the Iranian president said that problems faced by regional countries should be resolved through dialogue and cooperation and that there is no need for foreign intervention. The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction with the resumption of relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He clarified that Saudi Arabia is trying to promote relations with Iran to a strategic level. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said that the talks between Prince Faisal and President Raisi focused on reviewing bilateral relations and exploring ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in various fields. The ministry also stated that the two exchanged views on recent developments in the regional and international arenas. He conveyed to the President of Iran the invitation of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to visit Saudi Arabia. Earlier, Prince Farhan had a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian. The meeting was held at the building of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In a joint press conference held following the bilateral talks, Prince Farhan stated that the Saudi embassy in Tehran will be opened soon. He said he had constructive and candid discussions with Amirabdullahian. Iran and Saudi Arabia are two major powers in the region. He said that the normalization of relations between the two countries is an important development. Iran’s foreign minister said he was happy to host the Saudi foreign minister in Tehran 100 days following the meeting in Beijing. It was the third meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia following the resumption of diplomatic ties in Tehran. Two meetings were held in other countries. Saturday’s meeting in Tehran was the first in Iran in seven years. After a gap of seven years, the Iranian embassy in Riyadh was reopened on the 6th of this month. A consulate in Jeddah and a representative office of the Organization of Islamic Corporation (OIC) were also opened. On March 10, with the mediation of China, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached an agreement to restore diplomatic relations.
