The Secretary for Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendiguren, and the Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency, Mercedes Marcó del Pont, presented the Bill for the Promotion of Production of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles before representatives of the advisory council of the automotive chain and unions of the sector.
The initiative promotes the development of the industry and its value chain to insert Argentina into the new productive trends with sustainable technologies within the framework of the energy transition.
The project was prepared jointly by Industry and Strategic Affairs, as well as by the Energy and Transportation areas.
Work axes
It proposes improvements in the current regulation, under five axes:
• Benefits for the production and export of electric vehicles,
• Incentives for the production of electrical parts and special equipment,
• Benefits for the production of electric personal mobility vehicles,
• Incentives for professional training,
• Progress in retrofit regulation (conversion of internal combustion vehicles to electric).
current incentives
At the moment, the industry has incentives for investment, production and exports through tax benefits and reduction of tariffs.
Through the production of units with more sustainable motorization, it seeks to develop export platforms; expand the chain of national electroparts; promote the production of electric vehicles and auxiliary equipment; establish electromobility infrastructure; promote professional training; and advance technological regulations.
“It is very important that we can open these instances between the different areas of the national State, the automotive chain and the workers to concretely promote a key industry for the country’s productive structure,” said De Mendiguren.
National Production
Along these lines, he pointed out: «The main countries today are advancing towards the energy transition And it is essential that industrialists, workers, and the State prepare, work, and strengthen the capacity of national production to adapt to changing times in order to provide the world with what it demands of us.”
For his part, Marcó del Pont explained that the project is “a new regulatory framework to promote national production accompanied by the development of local suppliers of electrical parts and equipment.”
“The proposal is complemented by the industrialization of lithium in the country for the production of batteries and will guarantee, with a strong articulation in terms of training and education, high levels of employment in the sector.”
